Office Patio

We decided to build a little patio behind Skyler’s office and it only took us 2 Saturdays! I’m in love 😍

This has always been the girls’ favorite place to explore, so I wanted a cozy little spot where we could sit and watch them play. Something simple, but still beautiful and intentional. This is where we planned to put the patio!

The Plan

We kept everything really simple for this project.

We used:

(This was the same edging we used for the pathway to Skyler’s office, so it all tied together really nicely.)

Here’s my inspiration!

After buying everything, the whole project ended up being around $400, which felt like such a good price for how much it transformed the space.

Delivery Tip

One thing that made this project so much easier was having everything delivered.

The stones and gravel were so heavy, and Home Depot offered next day delivery for about $70. It saved us so much time (and our backs), and I would definitely do that again!

Prep

There was a lot of weeding and leveling to do before anything else. Once it was flattened out, we laid the border and made sure everything felt even.

We also added weed cloth underneath everything to help keep it low maintenance over time.

Laying the Patio

Once the base was ready, we started placing the step stones.

We laid them in a simple checker pattern! To keep everything in place, we secured the edging and added posts so the stones wouldn’t shift over time. After that, we filled in all the empty space with pea gravel.

The Pea Gravel

I had actually sworn I would never use pea gravel again because of how messy it was when we used it years ago.

But this time, I found a rock anchor spray that completely changed everything.

The instructions call for three coats to ensure everything stays in place! You just spray on a light layer and let it dry completely before spraying the next layer.

Trellises

I wanted to add a little bit of height and softness to the space, so I ordered some wood trellises.

We attached them to the wall using a clamp, tightener, and thick wire from the roof overhang, and secured everything with zip ties.

The plan was to have jasmine grow up the wall eventually, which I think will make the space feel even more cozy and tucked in.

The String Lights

I knew I wanted market lights back here, but there wasn’t anything to hang them from. So we got a couple of barrels and turned them into posts.

Inside each barrel, we placed a 5-gallon bucket and poured in concrete. Then we set 4x4 posts into the buckets and let everything set.

Once it was dry, we drilled drainage holes in the barrels and added rocks and soil so we could plant flowers on top. It ended up being such a simple solution, and I love how it looks!

Finishing Touches

We found the most beautiful concrete urns on Facebook Marketplace and added them to the space. Then we also got this perfect outdoor patio set from Mopio!

I love it out here🥰
